The Jasonville Park Board will be hosting their 5th annual Mayor’s Ride on August 31st at the Jasonville City Park. Same-day registration starts at 8 a.m. and the ride begins at 10 a.m.

The mayor of Jasonville will lead participants on the ride, which should last around two hours. The annual event raises money for repairs and improvements to the city park, and Park Board Member Kelly Portteus explained that they have made many improvements in the last several years and hope to add many more.

“Each year the money goes back into the park,” she said. “We are in need of a new merry-go-round, and merry-go-rounds are extremely expensive. It’s totally out of our budget. In the future it would be nice to have a drinking fountain and a new shelter house.”

The park board sold sponsorships on shirts and cup cozies, which will help promote local businesses as well as raising money for the park.

The ride costs $25 for a single rider, and one shirt and a meal are included. Registration for a double rider is $35 and includes one shirt and two meals. Extra shirts can be purchased for $15, and the board will be taking orders for them during the event. Cup cozies will be available for purchase the day of the event, and non-riders can also purchase meals.

Portteus believes the meal will consist of hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, chips, and soft drinks or water. There will also be vendor booths, raffles, and music.

The park board has not scheduled a band for the event yet, but they are working on it. Wikker Elephant has played the other four Mayor’s Rides, but this year they were already committed to the Linton Music Fest. Portteus stressed that the band members have donated a lot of time to the park, though, and the park board appreciates all of their help.

For more information, or to pre-order a shirt, call the Jasonville Mayor’s office at 812-665-2266 or Jasonville Pizza Villa at 812-665-3959. Pre-registration forms and information sheets are available at Rash Hardware, Hoosier Pete’s, Pizza Villa, Criss insurance, and Gamble’s Furniture.

Portteus noted that if someone wants to donate money to help the cause, the park board would greatly appreciate it. She added that not having a motorcycle shouldn’t stop anyone from enjoying the event.

“We want people to come into the park and enjoy it. With it being a holiday weekend we’re hoping that people will come and have fun. Anyone can buy a meal, and we’ll have the information booths and things. Even if they don’t ride motorcycles it will be a good place to spend a day.”

They plan to have people selling Avon, Scentsy, Thirty One, and jewelry. Air Evac Life team will be there with their air ambulance from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. The Sheriff’s Department will be fingerprinting kids, the Indiana State Police Meth Suppression Awareness Team is planning to attend, and the Linton Police Department will have a car there.
